Understanding exactly what happens in the world of business will help you develop the skills and knowledge required to prepare you for working in areas of employment such as accounting, administration, customer service, finance, IT, personnel and sales. Here at Suffolk One you will benefit from the wealth of resources and links to local businesses which will enable you to apply your understanding in a practical context.

The course is broadly equivalent to 4 GCSEs. It is made up of 4 mandatory units and 5 optional units, which will allow you the opportunity to develop your skills and broaden your knowledge about business. You will have opportunities to learn about the basics of business as well as getting into more detail when learning how to design a business plan.

The course will give you the opportunity to get hands-on experience in pitching your own business ideas and setting up your own website. Your teachers will be able to offer their knowledge and experience.

Entry requirements

5 GCSE’s A* - E to include GCSE Maths and English at grade D.

Which subjects complement this

The Functional Skills of Maths, ICT and English will be taught as an integral part of the First Diploma.

Assessment

There are no examinations on this course. You will provide a portfolio showing evidence of the nine units you have studied. You will be awarded a pass, merit or distinction grade at the end of the course. You need to secure a merit overall to be able to progress to L3 Business next year should you wish to continue with vocational business.  

Progression

You will be able to progress to an Advanced Diploma course or get a job in Banking, Retail, Insurance or Accountancy; or perhaps venture into Self-­employment.
