There is real potential for this qualification to prepare learners for appropriate direct employment in the vocational sector and it is suitable for those who have decided that they clearly wish to enter a particular specialist area of work. It is broadly equivalent to three GCE A Levels and associated UCAS points. Business employers value employees who are able to communicate effectively both verbally and using electronic communication methods. The BTEC Nationals in Business provide opportunities for learners to develop their communication skills as they progress through the course. This can be both through presentations and discussions in which they have the opportunity to express their opinions. We will use local businesses as examples wherever possible and we have already built firm relationships with outstanding local and Global businesses.

5 GCSEs A* - C to include GCSE English and Maths at grade C

What will I study

Some of the things you might do on the course include:

  • You will complete 9 units of work in the first year, including 4 mandatory units that cover topics such as the Business Environment and An Introduction to Marketing.
  • There are 14 optional components comprising of Accounting, Marketing, Human resources, Retail and Law  
  • Students on this course are exposed to a variety of teaching methodologies including independent research/investigation, group work, student centered learning, peer support, business simulations and tutorials.
  • Students will be expected to supplement their classroom work by reading around the particular unit of study and engaging in extracurricular events such as visits to businesses.

Assessment

100% coursework

Each unit contains a pass, merit and distinction criteria for unit assessment and grading. All units are internally assessed through coursework assignments, projects or practical activities.

Progression

This Level Three course is equivalent to three A-Levels, and has the same UCAS accreditation. The BTEC Diploma will allow you to either access employment or further work-based qualifications such as NVQ’s or will allow you progression onto Degree courses in this subject area.
