The Media industry incorporates many different roles from technical support, design, set-design, health and safety to research and directing. What you can be sure of is that no day is ever the same. This course offers students a challenging and stimulating introduction to this expanding field. They will get an excellent grounding in the work-based skills used in a range of media-related areas including television, film, publishing and animation.

Entry requirements
At least four GCSEs at grade C or above, including English Language, Maths and Media (if taken); or a Level 2 BTEC Diploma (or equivalent) in a related area at Merit level. You will also need to commit to an additional 12 hours of study per week. Students must have an enthusiastic interest in Creative Media Production which should be demonstrated at interview.
What will I study
You will take part in writing, editing and filming for production as well as all the work-based scenarios that filming and editing involve. The work is accomplished using excellent facilities including digital video using Final Cut, audio editing using Logic and digital stills imaging using Adobe Creative Suite. There is a wealth of industry-standard resources available including iMacs, MacBooks and DV cameras to use, and students will have support from a team of specialised media tutors and technicians. Students also study and practice the vital media skills of managing productions, working in teams, researching, interviewing and presenting. Underpinning the vocational side of the course is the analytical study of Audiences, Institutions and Products to enable students to start building the technical skills and knowledge relevant to a variety of sectors of the media industry.
Assessment
Coursework assignments include the planning and production of an advertising campaign, location assignments, producing films, music videos and other production projects. An overall grade is awarded at the end of the course following the assessment of a Final Major Project.

Opportunities for work in the media industries are intensely competitive, but students have found that this qualification prepares them for a variety of vocational contexts, as well as equipping them with the study skills required for higher education.
