This course is designed to introduce students to working in the Music and Recording Industry or to prepare them for further study, such as a BTEC National Diploma. This qualification will give you an insight into the different career paths and skills required in the Music Industry. You can choose from a wide variety of options to develop your skills in Music Performance and Production. Specialist units include DJ technology, rehearsal techniques and working as a musical ensemble.
This course would suit those students with a passion for music and an interest in all aspects of the subject.With guidance from your teacher you will be expected to be in charge of your own learning, assess your own performance making improvements when necessary.
If you enjoy having the freedom to make your own decision and work in a style of learning that is assessed by a range of written and practical assignments then you will welcome this type of learning with open arms.
At least two GCSEs at grade D or above; including GCSE English Language and Music. You will also need to commit to an additional 10 hours of study per week. In exceptional cases, students will be given the opportunity to demonstrate their musical talents by attending an audition.
There are several Units involved in this qualification including Performing, Composing and Music Management.
Through external visits, visiting speakers, professional contacts, work experience and within workshops at Suffolk One you will gain an insight into what is involved in the Music Industry. In addition to this you will study a range of specialist units including performance styles, Music Production, Marketing, Singing Skills, Composing Music, and leading a band or ensemble. Students will experience a variety of performance styles and understand the process of managing and marketing bands in the popular and rock genres.
Each unit is assessed by a portfolio submission.
Students will perform on an instrument/voice of their choice.
Following this course you may decide to take your interest further and study a BTEC Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma in Music Performance, and a BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Performing Arts.
