The view from one of our current students
Suffolk One is an “adult environment” which means each student is responsible for themselves, this includes: meeting our deadlines, demonstrating good behaviour and informing our tutors if we are going to be absent.
The timetable is, for me, a refreshing change to that of high school as Suffolk One offers a range of subjects and has two lessons a day; each lesson lasts 2 hours 30 minutes with a 10-15 minute break during each lesson and 75 minutes for lunch.
I am currently studying four A-level courses, which are: French, English literature, Psychology and Sociology. At first I was nervous because whilst I was sure I’d enjoy the subjects, I didn’t know anyone taking them at the time, however, during my first lesson for each subject I soon made friends with the other students.
Suffolk One offers a range of extra-curricular activities on a Wednesday afternoon which is called the ‘Evolve’ programme and is set up to help students get into university or the career they want. The activities available include: sports clubs, filmmaking, creative writing, astronomy and many more.
All of the staff are friendly and supportive and the centre has a first name policy which I feel creates a friendly environment.
Suffolk One has also set up email accounts for all the students and staff making it easier for students to get the support and help they may need from their teachers as well as helping staff to remind their pupils of important dates or lessons or homework.
Suffolk One is a fantastic learning centre, which offers a great working environment and lots of support. The lessons are both enjoyable and challenging. I am glad I chose to study here.
